How much time do you have to respond?

Pick your letter type, enter the date it arrived, and see exactly how many working days you have left. We exclude weekends and German national public holidays so the number matches what a tax advisor actually has to work with.

One month for an Einspruch under §§ 347 ff. AO.
Use the day you opened it. The legal clock usually starts on the deemed-delivery date (typically 3 days after the postmark for German postal mail).
If the letter shows a specific date, enter it. It overrides the typical window above.

How the calculator works

About these numbers.

Schätzbescheid: one month under §§ 347 ff. AO for an Einspruch. Aufforderung zur Abgabe: typically 14 days, set by the issuing Finanzamt under § 149 AO. Mahnung: typically 14 days, set on the letter under § 254 AO. Anhörung: typically 14 days, set under § 91 AO. Amazon § 25e Schätzbescheid: one month under §§ 347 ff. AO. Always check your own letter for the specific date, the calculator uses typical windows when no date is entered.

We count working days only, excluding Saturday and Sunday and German national public holidays. The remaining-days figure is therefore conservative: it tells you how many business days a tax advisor actually has to act, not how long the postman's clock is.

Nationwide holidays only: Neujahr (1 January), Karfreitag, Ostermontag, Tag der Arbeit (1 May), Christi Himmelfahrt, Pfingstmontag, Tag der Deutschen Einheit (3 October), Weihnachten (25 December), and 2. Weihnachtsfeiertag (26 December). State-specific holidays (Heilige Drei Könige, Fronleichnam, Reformationstag, Allerheiligen) are not excluded, since the issuing Finanzamt may be in a different state than the one observing the holiday.

No. The calculator gives you a working-day count based on standard windows from the Abgabenordnung. The actual deadline on your letter takes precedence. For a fixed-price quote on the response itself, send the letter through the intake form on /finanzamt-letter.

Based on §§ 347 ff. AO, § 91 AO, § 149 AO, § 254 AO (2026 rates and procedural rules). Estimate only, not legal advice. The actual deadline printed on your letter is binding. Calculator updated 2026-05-22.
